What is a chiropractic X-ray?

Chiropractic X-ray is diagnostic radiography performed in-house to visualize spinal alignment, detect fractures, and guide treatment decisions before manual adjustment.

In-house X-ray imaging is a diagnostic tool chiropractors use to examine the spine, joints, and surrounding structures. The images reveal bone position, alignment faults, and structural integrity before any hands-on treatment begins.

Chiropractors rely on X-rays for three main reasons. First, they identify vertebral subluxations (vertebrae out of place) that cause nerve interference and pain. Second, X-rays document posture problems and spinal curvature abnormalities that contribute to long-term dysfunction. Third, and critically, they rule out fractures, severe degenerative changes, or other contraindications that would make manual adjustment unsafe or inappropriate.

The imaging process typically captures frontal and lateral views of the affected area, allowing the chiropractor to measure angles, assess disc space height, and evaluate overall spinal mechanics. Having X-ray capability on-site means practitioners can make informed clinical decisions immediately rather than delaying diagnosis or referring patients elsewhere for imaging.

This diagnostic foundation supports the chiropractor's treatment plan by confirming what structures need attention and what adjustments or therapies are suitable for each patient's condition. X-rays also serve as a baseline record for tracking changes in spinal alignment over the course of care.
