• Volume, 20%. How many reviews a business has, log-scaled. Ten reviews and four hundred reviews are both "a lot" in different ways, so raw counts get compressed rather than treated as a straight line. This stops a clinic with a handful of reviews from outranking one with a long, consistent track record purely on a lucky run.
• Recency, 12%. How recently people have actually reviewed the business. A clinic that hasn't had a new review in two years tells you less about what it's like to walk in today than one reviewed last month.
• Completeness, 14%. Whether basic listing information, phone number, website, hours, address, is present and correct. A chiropractor who keeps their listing current is generally easier to actually book with.

Why sentiment carries the most weight

Star averages flatten everything into one number, and that number can hide a lot. Two clinics can sit at the same 4.3 stars while one has a run of recent reviews all mentioning the same problem, rushed adjustments, a receptionist who doesn't return calls, unclear pricing, and the other doesn't. The star average won't show you that pattern. Reading what people actually wrote will. That's the entire reason sentiment is weighted above rating itself: it's the only signal that catches a recurring issue before you become the next review complaining about it.

We synthesize themes from recent reviews rather than republishing full text, and we link out to the Google listing itself so you can read the original reviews and form your own view.

Where the method has limits

Be aware of the honest gaps. A business with only a few recent reviews doesn't have enough data for a reliable score, however good those reviews look, so it's labeled low-confidence rather than ranked as if it had a full track record. Reviews also reflect what people choose to write, not a clinical audit of every practitioner. Treat the score as a strong starting filter, not a verdict, and always check the linked Google reviews before booking.

Scores are earned, not sold

Every score on this site comes only from the rubric above, applied to public data. Nothing else moves it. Where paid placement exists on this site, it is always labeled clearly and it never changes a business's score. If any list's picks or order were shaped by editorial judgment rather than the rubric alone, that is disclosed directly on that page, for example our sports chiropractic picks. If a page doesn't carry that disclosure, its ranking came straight from the scoring method.
